Online healthcare discussions now have an Infographic
MNIncite is a company owned by Nielsen/McKinsey who recently surveyed online healthcare discussions focused on specific diseases. They wanted to know who is driving the conversation … patients, caregivers or healthcare providers.
The results are not staggering, however the massive under representation of trained professionals is a eye opener. Turns out that in all but one case Healthcare Providers are supplying 2% or less of the content of these posts.
The lone exception is the topic of Lung Cancer where healthcare providers supply a whopping 9% of the information in online chat.
In a number of cases the majority of the online healthcare discussions are driven by the patient’s caregiver … Alzheimer’s disease tops that statistic as you might expect.
The authors of this infographic focused on disease specific online healthcare discussions and found the most popular conversation topics to be
- Depression
- Fibromyalgia
- Breast Cancer
- ADD
- Asthma
- Cardiovascular Disease
