Your 2023 Physician Career: Is the Juice Worth the Squeeze?

Posted by Dike Drummond MD

Every week, dozens of physicians contact us or join our community here at TheHappyMD.com.

All of them are concerned about the little voice that says, "I'm not sure how much longer I can keep going like this."

These are the people who have been able to step around the main blocks to recognizing burnout - the physician's two prime directives.

  • The Patient Comes First
  • Never Show Weakness

These doctors are the tip of the iceberg.

They are disobeying the programming of our medical education to ask for support. For every doctor that asks for help, there are hundreds, equally distressed, who are living the reality of Einstein's Insanity Trap.

Remember, the most recent burnout survey shows daily prevalence of physician burnout is over 60% here in 2023.

So let me ask a question from a different perspective.

Remember for just a moment, back at the Lightworker's fork in the road when you made the original decision to go to medical school. You made a choice to be a helper, a healer, to make a difference.

Now, fast forward to today ...

When it comes to your current job / practice / career ...

Is the Juice Worth the Squeeze - especially here in 2023?189968553_s

Is your investment of time and energy (physical and emotional) worth the money, fulfillment and satisfaction you get back in return?

Let's put a number on this:

On a scale of 0 to 10,  how SATISFIED are you with your career as a physician at this point in time?

What is your number?
I suggest you write it down - in your journal if you have one - and date it.

Now look at your number again ...

Are you OK with that number?

Or would you like it to be a little higher?

Confucius is famous for the saying: "The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their proper name.”

The beginning of all positive change in your job / practice / career / life is when you notice whether or not the amount of JUICE is a fair return for the effort your SQUEEZE required.

How does that ratio feel to you when you take a deep breath and acknowledge your reality?

If you are happy with your Satisfaction Score ... that is GREAT ! Congratulations. My advice is to stay on high alert in this rapidly changing healthcare industry. 2023 will be a year for active measures to protect your career if your Satisfaction Score is 7 and more.

If you are not happy with your score ... let us show you proven methods to change both:

  • the amount and quality of the JUICE
  • and the effort involved in the SQUEEZE

to reach a higher number.

Over the last 12 years and in our experience with over 40,000 physicians coached or trained to date, we have discovered and tested a practice optimization process that will:

  • Improve your level of satisfaction with your Job / Practice / Career / Life
  • and render you Burnout Proof® in the process

It all begins with the 3-Step, Ideal Job Description Process

Here's another blog post to guide you through all three steps and give you CME Credit.

This video training is only 5:28 long. Grab some paper or your journal to take notes.
