Susan Leggett-Johnson, M.D. is a board-certified internist, speaker, leadership, and burnout prevention coach.
In addition to her clinical practice, Susan has spent years mentoring and coaching physicians, supporting leadership development initiatives, and implementing Diversity and Inclusion strategies.
She began her medical studies in Louisiana, earning her M.D. from Louisiana State University, and completed her residency in the District of Columbia with Howard University. She worked as a Medical Attending for Tulane Medical Center in Louisiana before getting married and returning to practice medicine in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area.
With over 30 years as a medical professional, Susan spent 15+ years serving as an Associate Medical Director focusing on H.R., DEI, and Physician Wellness. Her success as Physician Director, overseeing the operations of several large Medical Centers, helped solidify her path to Associate Medical Director (AMD) at Kaiser Permanente. In her role as AMD, Susan was responsible for overseeing the development of leaders, mentoring new and coaching tenured physicians, and leading efforts to support the well-being of the medical group through the Physician Wellness Program.
Over time, Susan connected with hundreds of physicians and other healthcare workers, developing an understanding of what they valued or appreciated and listening to what caused concern and distress. Those experiences helped her develop a deep understanding of the importance of belonging, the value of promoting physician wellness, and the need to prevent burnout and support physicians, even when support resulted in a separation. She is passionate about helping her clients improve their emotional intelligence, develop leadership skills, improve clinical outcomes for patients, and find joy in their professional and personal lives.
Susan has an MBA from Loyola University - Sellinger School of Business.
In addition to her many professional accomplishments, Susan is an active volunteer.
She is married and the mother of three children. She and her husband love traveling and spending time with family, including two young grandchildren. She currently resides in the D.C.- Maryland metropolitan area.
